This page will answer most of your basic questions about commissioning me to create customized artwork. Every step is made to foster a trustworthy and professional relationship. You may commission an oil painting, watercolor, or mural.
Oil Painting and Watercolor Commissions
Pricing:
Prices depend on the scope, subject matter and level of complexity of the artwork. Generally, a custom-made piece is more expensive and requires a 50% deposit before the start of work. A free written estimate is provided where the price is determined based on the particulars of an individual project.
Process:
The Beginning
During the initial appointment, I get introduced to your idea for the commissioned painting. It may be a piece similar to one that already exists in my inventory or perhaps has been sold, or it could be a motif from your personal photo collection. Please keep in mind that, unlike with murals, I will only accept an oil or watercolor commission if it is consistent with my painting style; I would be glad, however, to customize the artwork to the color scheme that you prefer or your space needs.
Ideas & Sketches
I make color sketches, if necessary, to help you visualize how your artwork will look when completed. Depending on the amount of research that needs to be done for the project, please allow up to 5 business days for this process.
Approvals
During your second appointment with me, you discuss and approve a sketch for your artwork. IMPORTANT: this is the time to make adjustments to the sketch if you would like to. Substantial changes of concept during the actual painting process will result in additional costs.
A free written estimate is also provided to you at this time. It includes a description of services, materials, and price, estimated timeline of the project, and other applicable terms and conditions. Upon approval of this estimate and prior to start of the actual work, a 50% deposit is required. When getting closer to the completion of the painting, I will set up a meeting with you to discuss final adjustments and small changes.
End of Project & Certificate of Authenticity
Upon completion of the artwork, the remaining balance of the quoted price is due. In addition, a signed Certificate of Authenticity is provided to you that describes the title and the size of the artwork and confirms its authenticity.
